Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico – Pacific Paddle, Mexico’s pioneer Stand Up Paddle (SUP) safari company, is now also the first accredited Academy of Surfing Instructors (ASI) SUP Training Center in the area, and the only Paddle Board Instructor Certification in Mexico. As one of only four ASI accredited training centers in the world, Pacific Paddle joins an exclusive level of professional SUP schools. In addition to offering classes to SUP safari customers, they now train and certify instructors as well as other SUP training centers.
Originally opened in 2008, Pacific Paddle initially offered board rentals, customer SUP classes and exclusive SUP safaris through exotic locations such as Islas Marietas. They soon added a unique cutting-edge certified Kite School that uses jet skis and radio helmets for communication between instructor and student. Co-owner Adam Finer’s industry knowledge is vast: he has been involved in kitesurfing since the sport’s inception in the mid-90’s and opened the first kite school in Canada. Since then he has not only competed professionally, but he’s also designed kite boards and helped leading manufacturers develop safety systems and kites. This industry expertise is rivaled only by his and his wife, Veronica’s, SUP accomplishments.
Both co-owners are ocean athletes and enthusiasts to the point of professional competition; he plays on the Canadian SUP team while she plays on the Mexican National SUP team. Together, their passion for SUP is what brought the original excursions to Puerto Vallarta. The ASI certification further expands their dream.
“We wanted to not only bring SUP excursions to Mexico,” explains Mr. Finer, “we also wanted to provide excellent service and professional instruction to the market, which we thought was lacking. To be accredited by ASI, the highest level of certification in the industry, is an honor we don’t take lightly. To be recognized for our passion, experience and training is a huge milestone in Pacific Paddle’s growth. We’re quite grateful.”
To ride the wave of continued growth, the Finers will soon launch a new website that will feature an online store for rentals, purchases, lesson bookings and training reservations. Instructor training and certification continues as well, with the next sessions in February in Playa Del Carmen and Baja California, Mexico.
