ABOUT LEESA FLEMING
I’m Leesa Fleming, a Irish-German photographer currently based in Nayarit, Mexico. While my heart belongs to the artistic side of photography – shooting intuitively and editing creatively – I’ve also really been enjoying the fast-paced world of surf competition photography such as this past weekends Starboard Sayulita SUP Open. There’s a real thrill in the unpredictable conditions, the split-second timing and the adrenaline I feel from the athletes. I started shooting in the water 3.5 years ago in Portugal and haven’t looked back since.
It’s a very special side of photography I’ve just completely really fallen in love with as it brings challenges and moments of satisfaction that shooting on land just can’t give. I’m also grateful to have had the chance to organise a surf photo exhibition at the afterparty, showcasing some of my own pictures alongside the work of four other wonderful local photographers. It felt like the perfect way to bring together the surf competition world and the more artistic side of surf photography.
